The Port Marine Safety Code sets out a national standard for every aspect of port marine safety. Its aim is to enhance safety for everyone who uses or works in the port marine environment. It applies to all harbour authorities and other marine facilities, berths and terminals in the UK. It is an example of self regulation and has been refreshed in full consultation with the industry through the Port Marine Safety Code Steering Group, at which the BTA is strongly represented.
The Code may be found at www.gov.uk/government/publications/port-marine-safety-code
It is accompanied by a guide to good practice, which provides more practical advice on managing the risks involved in port operations. This document is amended regularly, with the next update due in January 2017.
